Home of Goldback Wines & Iruai Wine

Important Announcement: Please read

It's hard to believe it's been almost three years since Goldback, Sound & Vision, and Ryan Rose opened the doors of Catalyst Wine Collective.

At its core, Catalyst was always intended to be an incubator for three small wineries and other special guests to showcase their stories and their wines with all of you. It was also a magical space to let loose some strange ideas (lasagne club anyone?) and taste flights that let you experience the 4th dimension.

The purpose of an incubator is to be a transitory space and in this Catalyst Wine Collective has been extremely successful. One by one, the founding wineries have moved on to their own spaces and started new journeys. A new journey also began when Iruai came on board with Goldback in January to join the Collective. There’s been a lot of change over the years, and the time has come to make another big one.

We are super excited to announce that Iruai and Goldback are going to be starting a new venture in Talent this spring. We’ll be transforming part of the newly reconstructed historic Malmgren Garage at 111 Talent Ave. In addition to Goldback and Iruai wines, our new space will blur the line between tasting room and wine bar, including inspirational international wine offerings, an expansive selection of bites and meals, and plenty of great vibes.

We can’t wait to tell you more about it in the coming weeks! That said, Catalyst Wine Collective will not be moving on with us.

The last day of operations for Catalyst Wine Collective at Phoenix Industrial Studios will be March 31st.

The Catalyst space will be transformed by our neighbors at the Crooked Mile Gallery into a gathering space with coffee, wine, and more - supporting some of the same small wineries that made Catalyst so unique. We’re excited to see the transformation, and that the spirit of Catalyst will live on in a new way.

Hopefully, you can join us one last time as we say goodbye to the Catalyst Wine Collective. We will forever be grateful for the support you’ve shown us over the years, we literally could not have done any of this without you. Cheers to what’s next!

In gratitude,

Andy, Chad, Michelle, & Dan

Goldback Wines

Goldback Wines launched in 2016, the realization of a winemaking dream 14 years in the making. Before settling in Ashland and starting Goldback, winemaker Andy Myer spent over a decade working in wine regions across the globe learning the skills and secrets from the masters. The most important secret of them all? How to make the wines you like to drink.

His clean, careful approach to winemaking favors pragmatic minimalism over dogma. Fruit is picked on the earlier side to maintain refreshing, natural acidity. Whole clusters and long skin contact are used for softer texture & tannin integration. Neutral oak to showcase the site's authentic expression.

The initial focus for Goldback is on Rhône varieties grown from 2 unique and sustainably farmed sites in the southeastern area of the Rogue Valley. (Oh, and Chenin Blanc)

Iruai Wine

Iruai Winery (“ear-oo-eye" … the artist formerly known as Methode Sauvage) was started in 2013 by Chad and Michelle Westbrook Hinds in Berkeley, CA as a nomadic natural wine project, before laying down roots in Michelle’s beautiful hometown of Etna, CA in the mythical Shasta-Cascade mountains of Siskiyou County in 2019.

Finding ourselves in largely untested grape growing territory, with high elevations and a continental climate, we have turned Iruai into an exploration and celebration of esoteric varieties that flourish in the Alps of Europe. While we work to grow our Scott Valley estate vineyard projects, we purchase fruit and lease vineyards throughout the Shasta-Cascade, from the Trinity Alps of California to the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon.

We seek to make wine with a sense of place by employing no additives, and removing no character. Our goal in the vineyard is to let the vines thrive like they would in the wild, and in the cellar, to shepherd each ferment through its own natural development and evolution.
